Essential Kitchen Tool – Angela D. Gould
Last Christmas my husband bought me an airfryer. What an amazing gift! In 12 minutes, I have a steak; 10 minutes hamburgers, or bacon. The first thing I cooked using my airfryer was a pork roast. Clean up is easy. It got me to thinking what other tools in the kitchen make weight loss or life in general easier?
We buy meat and some vegetables in bulk, as it is cheaper. A food scale is a must. It has a tar function allowing for: grams, milliliter, pounds, and ounces. These measurements come in handy when breaking the meat or vegetable down for storage or freezing. For a therapeutic ketogenic diet, I need to track macronutrients: carbs, fat, and proteins in grams.
Blenders come in handy for soup, sauces and for some smoothies. Immersion blenders are also used. Tip, if using an immersion blender make sure your cup or bowl is big enough for overflow. Many blenders now have a single server or the larger 32 to 72 ounces container.
Slow-cookers are great for stews, roasts, cooking in bulk, homemade yogurt and broths. As a side, I started making Thanksgiving stuffing in the slow-cooker in my twenties, I am now in my sixties. Often meals cooked in the slow-cooker are what I call, throw and gos.
Skillets that can go from stove top to oven come in quite handy for searing meat or vegetables and then roasting them off in the oven. Also, a good stock pot for homemade sauces and soups. There are many non-stick, ceramic ones on the market. I still have my tried-and-true cast-iron skillet.
Other tools for the kitchen include: measuring cups and spoons. Serving spoons now come with measurements as well as bowls and plates. How technical does one want to get?
